Founded in 1870 to provide burial space for the rural areas of Philadelphia and Delaware County, the scenic site was easily accessible by Baltimore Pike's horse drawn rail car and the West Chester and Media Railroad.
In 1910, a community mausoleum was constructed to provide indoor entombment services. Fernwood has adapted and expanded over the years to serve the community, enlarging the mausoleum and adding a chapel area with indoor niches. Our latest addition of in-ground burial plots and granite wall niches provides additional resting place options for your loved one's cremains.
Fernwood Cemetery is now in its fifth generation of continuous family ownership and management.
We are proud to serve our friends and neighbors of all religious faiths. It is our goal to provide your loved one resting place of beauty and dignity where you can visit with pride.
Pre-need sales are welcome and interest-free time payments are available. All prices include perpetual care for the burial sites purchased. In order to ensure ongoing care and maintenance of the Fernwood Cemetery and Mausoleum grounds, a trust fund for this purpose was established in 1914.
